Jeff Duncan-Andrade, a leading expert in effective teaching practices and educational equity, will offer the keynote at this year’s Plater-Moore Conference on Teaching and Learning on April 5 in the IUPUI Campus Center.

Duncan-Andrade’s scholarship draws on more than 30 years of teaching and research to illuminate how teaching cultures foster wellness, confidence and academic success among all learners. His keynote address will provide insights and strategies that foreground relationships, relevance and responsibility as essential ingredients for advancing equity and inclusion, key strategic priorities of the IU 2030 strategic plan.

“At the core, all students and all people want to feel cared for, they want to feel a sense of belonging, they want to know how important, brilliant and valuable their voice and perspective is to the community and the world,” Duncan said in a recent interview.

He also noted that educators play a critical role in the well-being of students because educators have the power to create responsive and equitable learning spaces for all learners.

In addition to hearing from Duncan-Andrade, conference attendees can choose from more than 35 peer-reviewed concurrent sessions in a variety of engaging formats. Breakfast, lunch and an afternoon dessert reception will be provided, and a resource and vendor fair will take place throughout the day.

The conference is designed as a day of free learning and professional development.

IU faculty and instructional staff, regardless of appointment type, and professional staff who provide support for the teaching and learning mission, like instructional designers and IT professionals, are encouraged to register to attend.
