By IU Today

March 13, 2025

The IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center and its Junior Faculty Special Interest Group are inviting proposals for pilot/feasibility research projects in any area of basic, translational or clinical cancer research and population science research that would advance the applicants’ career goals.

The deadline to submit a notification of intent to apply has been extended to 5 p.m. March 28.

The duration of this pilot funding is one year, and the budget should not exceed $50,000.

The principal investigator must be an associate-level member in a cancer center research program or an affiliate cancer center member at the level of assistant professor, research assistant professor, assistant scientist, associate research professor or research scientist. Current postdocs and residents/fellows are also eligible, provided they will have a full-time faculty appointment and will be an associate- or affiliate-level cancer center member at the time of funding awards.

Notification of intent can be submitted without cancer center membership approval, but membership approval must be received by the time of award on July 1. To apply for membership, investigators must fill out an application by May 15. Membership is not guaranteed. Applications are reviewed by cancer center leadership, and the investigator will be notified of member status approximately three to four weeks after application submission.

Applicants with prior funding from this mechanism or with current funding from a national competitive research grant are not eligible to apply.

Notification of intent to apply for funding should be sent via email to project management specialist Vicki Clements at vlclemen@iu.edu with the following information:

  • Applicant name.
  • Names of all collaborators and/or team members.
  • Draft title for proposal.
  • Members of mentoring committee, if applicable.
  • One to two sentences describing the project.

Applications will be completed via WebCAMP. A link to the application will be sent after notice of intent has been approved.

Final applications are due by 5 p.m. May 15. No extension will be granted.

Questions can be sent to Junior Faculty Special Interest Group co-leaders Marsha DeSmet at mdesmet@iu.edu or Jennifer King at jmstrass@iu.edu, or to Clements at vlclemen@iu.edu.
