Public safety officials expect between 300,000 and 400,000 visitors in Bloomington to witness the April 8 total solar eclipse, so they’re encouraging people to prepare ahead of time. That includes having a plan for where to park if coming to IU Bloomington’s campus to witness the eclipse or attend related events at Memorial Stadium, Dunn Meadow or the Arboretum.
People attending eclipse events on campus can purchase parking passes ahead of time for reserved lots near Memorial Stadium to ensure they have a designated area to park.
Campus parking garages will be staffed throughout the weekend. Staff who are supporting critical functions related to the eclipse will be given priority access based on the presence of an employee’s IU permit or an eclipse dash permit that will be provided by units with staff working April 8. Staff supporting eclipse events will not be charged for parking. Normal parking garage access will resume following the eclipse on April 8.
