D'Angelo Jr.D’Angelo most recently served as assistant vice president for facilities operations at the University of Chicago, a role he has held since April 2019. He also previously held facilities positions with Northwestern University, New York Presbyterian Hospitals and the Cleveland Clinic, after serving in the United States Navy for two decades.

“From classrooms to student housing to cutting-edge laboratories, capital planning and facilities management is critical for our aspirations to drive student success and deliver leading research,” IU President Pamela Whitten said. “John’s deep expertise and record of success make him the perfect choice to lead and shape the future of our grounds and facilities in a collaborative fashion with all of IU’s stakeholders.”

D’Angelo was the first chief operations officer for all Navy campuses worldwide, where he integrated all critical support business lines into a single outcomes-focused organization. While at the University of Chicago, he simultaneously served in his facilities role and as program manager for the New Engineering and Science Building. He also led a team there that won Energy Star Partner of the Year for four years, only the second higher education institution to win that recognition in the 30-year history of the program.

“Well-planned and well-managed facilities are critically important to a large, complex university like IU, and I’m thrilled to be able to serve Indiana University in this role,” D’Angelo said. “From the campus master plan to day-to-day facility operations, my focus will always be on ensuring that we create experiences that equip our students, faculty and staff to succeed.”

D’Angelo replaces Tom Morrison, who has accepted a new role as vice president for facilities at Duke University.
