Omar Alani, 48, an IU Dining assistant manager, is the first person to receive a COVID-19 vaccine inside the new vaccination site in the south lobby of Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall at IU Bloomington on Monday, March 29, 2021. IU is operating the COVID-19 vaccination site in coordination with the Monroe County Health Department providing free vaccines to those who are eligible.
Indiana University
Indiana University has been recognized as a Gold COVID Stops Here workplace for achieving at least a 90 percent vaccination rate among faculty and staff.
The COVID Stops Here campaign recognizes Indiana workplaces that have achieved widespread vaccination against COVID-19. Organizations that have achieved at least a 70 percent vaccination rate are eligible to receive a designation.
As reported on IU’s COVID-19 dashboard, as of Aug. 26, faculty and staff across all IU campuses had a 92.2 percent vaccination rate. Many individual campuses, including IU Bloomington and IUPUI, also have vaccination rates above 90 percent among faculty and staff.
The Indiana Chamber of Commerce and Wellness Council of Indiana are promoting the COVID Stops Here campaign as a way to celebrate workplaces that are leading the fight to stop COVID-19, and to encourage more organizations to join their ranks.
“It’s become clear that the COVID-19 vaccine is Indiana’s best pathway to recovery,” Indiana Chamber President and CEO Kevin Brinegar said. “Employers have an essential role to play, and we’re pleased to recognize those organizations making it a priority for the betterment of all.”
