Indiana University has announced two upcoming leadership transitions.

Jay L. Hess, executive vice president for university clinical affairs and dean of the IU School of Medicine, will step down as dean in July 2026. He has served as dean of the IU School of Medicine since 2013.

“Under Jay’s leadership, the IU School of Medicine has become one of the top 15 public medical schools in the country for National Institutes of Health research funding, which is a testament to the lifechanging work of our faculty and his leadership,” IU President Pamela Whitten said.

A national search for the School of Medicine’s next dean will be launched in August.

Rob Lowden, IU vice president for information technology and chief information officer, has accepted a position as chief information officer at The Ohio State University, effective Aug. 1.

Lowden has served IU for more than 25 years in various leadership and IT capacities, including as the university’s chief information officer for the past five years.

“We’re grateful to Rob for his leadership and dedication to IU, which has empowered innovation across our campuses,” Whitten said.

Aaron Neal, deputy chief information officer and associate vice president for networks and security, will serve as interim vice president. More information about a national leadership search, to be launched later this month, will be shared soon.
