Inaugural IU Economic Development Summit will bring together university, business, community leaders

August 01, 2025

The inaugural Indiana University Economic Development Summit this summer will bring together university, business and community leaders, as well as policymakers, to explore economic development and IU’s community partnerships across the state.

This daylong summit on Aug. 12, which is open to anyone, is designed to explore Indiana University’s statewide impact in economic development, including community partnerships, talent development, community resilience, and support of innovation and small business growth. It will also facilitate deeper discussions with business and community leaders about future needs within communities and economies throughout Indiana.

“Indiana University is a leader in entrepreneurship, innovation, economic and workforce development across the state,” said Michael Huber, IU vice president for university relations. “We hope this summit will strengthen business and community partnerships with those who share our commitment to drive economic development across the region.”

“Collaboration is at the heart of economic development; no one can do it alone,” said Ken Iwama, IU vice president for regional campuses and online education. “We hope the collaborations and new ideas that come from this summit will have a lasting impact across the state.”

Summit sessions include a focus on a collaborative healthcare talent alliance in St. Joseph County; a strategic initiative in southern Indiana to drive economic and workforce development; statewide entrepreneurship with IU Innovates; Wayne County small business development; partnerships that foster Indiana’s manufacturing pipeline; a new Registered Apprenticeship Program for teachers; and the IU Launch Accelerator for Bioscience, or IU LAB.

Anyone can register to attend.
