The Indiana University identification card that faculty, staff and students carry will now be offered in a new, convenient and secure form with the launch of the digital CrimsonCard. Users will be able to enter buildings, redeem meal points and print documents the same as before, but right from their phone or watch.

The no-cost digital CrimsonCard is available through the IU Mobile app. It is compatible with Apple Wallet and Google Wallet and works on iPhones, Apple Watches and eligible Android devices.

By simply tapping the device to card readers, users can:

  • Make purchases at retail locations on and off campus, including the campus bookstore.
  • Unlock doors and access secure buildings and dorms.
  • Check in at sports and recreation centers.
  • Pay for meals with dining dollars, meal plans or CrimsonCash.
  • Use printing services.

Whether it’s grabbing lunch, entering a building or printing a document, everything you need is now just a tap away.”

After a successful pilot in April and a summer orientation rollout for select students, the digital CrimsonCard is now available to all IU faculty, staff and students across all campuses.

The digital CrimsonCard is the preferred form of university identification. Only one card, either digital or physical, can be active at a time.

Here’s how to get started with the digital CrimsonCard:

  • Download the IU Mobile app and follow the steps to add your digital CrimsonCard.
  • New cardholders must upload a photo and documentation verifying their identity, such as a driver’s license or passport.
  • Current cardholders can use their existing photo or upload a new photo.

During the transition to digital IDs, CrimsonCard wants to make sure ID photos are up to date. If the photo on file is more than six years old, you will have to upload a new one. Due to high photo submission volume, approvals may take longer than usual at launch.
