Two Indiana University leaders will be elevated into new positions as others embark on new opportunities.
Dwayne Pinkney, who was appointed as executive vice president for finance and administration in 2022, has accepted the role of chief financial officer at the University of Pittsburgh.
Jason Dudich, who is currently serving as associate vice president for fiscal and economic strategy, will assume the role of interim vice president and chief financial officer beginning July 1.
“We are grateful for all Dwayne has done and are delighted at this opportunity for him,” IU President Pamela Whitten said. “Elevating Jason into this interim role is an indicator of the strength and depth of our organization. He will build on the significant progress already made modernizing IU’s budget, so we can continue to invest in faculty, research and our students while contributing to the state’s economic vitality.”
In his interim role, Dudich will lead long-range financial and budget planning that supports the IU 2030 strategic plan.
“I’m excited to continue serving my alma mater as IU builds on its more than 200-year history of excellence while leveraging new opportunities that will allow the institution to thrive,” Dudich said.
Before coming to IU, Dudich served as vice president for finance and administration and treasurer at the University of Indianapolis, and as Indiana’s budget director.
Rashad Nelms, associate vice president for strategy and innovation in the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, will also step into a new role at IU. He will succeed James Wimbush as IU’s interim vice president for DEI. In January, Wimbush shared with university leadership that he planned on returning to his faculty role in July.
“James is a distinguished campus leader who has contributed a great deal to the future of IU, and we wish him well as he returns to his faculty position,” Whitten said. “We are excited to move one of our own into the role of interim vice president and are confident Rashad will leverage his familiarity with IU and his leadership experience as he serves our various campuses.”
Nelms joined IU in 2021 as an executive-in-residence. He possesses nearly two decades of global leadership and management experience working with the world’s largest humanitarian organization, the United Nations World Food Programme. He has extensive experience as an international executive and strategic advisor and has supported institutions in recruiting and retaining administrators in an increasingly diverse workforce. Nelms is a graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of Michigan Law School.
“I’m committed to helping IU reach higher levels of inclusive excellence and look forward to working closely with President Whitten and her executive team to achieve our goals,” Nelms said.
