The Indiana University Board of Trustees has honored Susan Sciame-Giesecke with a special resolution recognizing the accomplishments and longstanding service of IU’s inaugural vice president for regional campuses and online education and former chancellor of IU Kokomo.

Susan Sciame-Giesecke. Photo by Indiana University Sciame-Giesecke, who is retiring at the end of the month, has served IU in numerous capacities for nearly a half century. She joined the IU Kokomo faculty in 1977 and rose to become the campus’s seventh chancellor in 2014.

Under her leadership, IU Kokomo saw record enrollment and graduation rates, the launch of numerous new degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and the addition of a new menu of student success programs. She also oversaw a $14 million renovation of the IU Kokomo Main Building, raised $14 million for scholarships during the IU Bicentennial Campaign and directed a major expansion of IU Kokomo’s athletic program to include 12 sports teams.

In 2022, she was named IU’s first vice president for regional campuses and online education. In that role, she has been responsible for providing focused strategic leadership for the continued development of IU’s regional campuses, which serve more than 15,700 students, and IU Online, which offers 232 online programs and majors to more than 8,600 students.

An IU alumna who earned her Ph.D. from IU Bloomington in speech communications, Sciame-Giesecke has been an active voice for the importance of higher education as a benefit to everyone and for all Hoosiers to have access to post-secondary education.
