New compliance training required for all employees

August 09, 2024
The Office of Institutional Equity has released a new compliance training that all IU employees must complete by June 30, 2025. The 2024 to 2025 Employee Title IX and Compliance Training course highlights new regulations and expectations that impact IU employees and is available now through IU Expand or Canvas. The training replaces “Sexual Misconduct Policies, Processes, and Resources: Responsible Employee Training,” the former annual training that was required of some employees.
What will the training cover?
The training highlights updates related to pregnancy rights for students and employees, such as accommodations related to pregnancy. It also covers sexual misconduct policies and reporting, discrimination and harassment policies and reporting, Programs Involving Children, the Clery Act, new IU policies, and resources.
Do I need to complete the course if I just completed the previous one a few weeks ago?
Yes, as this is a new training and contains new information, all IU employees must complete the course, regardless of previous completed trainings. While the window to complete the course is Aug. 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, the course highlights important and new changes to compliance regulations; thus the Office of Institutional Equity asks that all employees complete the course as soon as they are able to.
This course also outlines the implications of changes to Title IX regulations related to pregnancy rights and accommodations, so instructors should complete the course before the fall semester begins so they are aware of the rights of pregnant students in academia.
Do I need to take the course even if I am not pregnant, do not plan to be or do not work with any pregnant employees?
Yes. The training focuses on supporting IU community members who are pregnant or experiencing related medical conditions. All IU employees are expected to know the resources available to pregnant students, so completion of this course is necessary. It is a federal compliance expectation.
How long will it take to complete the course?
Most people can successfully complete the course in under an hour. To earn credit for the course, each user must earn a 70% or higher on the end-of-the-course quiz. Users can retake the quiz up to five times.
Who can I go to if I have questions or problems with the course?
Email oie@iu.edu and a member of the office will be happy to assist you.
