Associate vice president for student engagement and well-being named

Rosevelt Noble began his role as Indiana University’s associate vice president for student engagement and well-being within the university-wide Office of the Vice President for Student Success on July 15.

He previously served as associate dean of students for equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging at Vanderbilt University.

Photo by John Russell, Vanderbilt University In his role with IU, Noble will be responsible for strategic leadership in addressing the needs of all IU students as it relates to their co-curricular engagement, experience and well-being. As a member of the Office of the Vice President for Student Success leadership team, he will partner with other critical student-focused leaders in the office and across all of Indiana University, to help IU realize its collective goals with student success and opportunity as outlined in IU 2030. Noble will also collaborate with campus partners and key student-focused communities of practice to assist all IU campuses in creating exceptional student experiences for every IU student.

“Rosevelt is a tremendous addition to our team, and I am excited that he will lend his skills and talents to IU’s overall work on the student experience,” said Julie Payne-Kirchmeier, vice president for student success. “His background working directly with students, history with data-informed program creation, and deep higher education experience and academic training make him exceptionally qualified in this role. He has demonstrated his commitment to students and their well-being, and I know that he will make a difference at IU in meaningful and important ways.”

During his time at Vanderbilt, Noble held numerous leadership roles as the assistant dean of Residential Colleges, residential faculty member, director of the Black Culture Center and assistant dean of students. He also worked for over 10 years as the director of the Workforce Investment Act for the Tennessee Higher Education Commission and taught as a senior lecturer in the Department of Sociology for over 20 years at Vanderbilt.

Noble holds a Bachelor of Science in sociology, a Master of Arts in sociology and a Doctor of Philosophy in sociology/criminology from Vanderbilt University. He is also a committed community member, having served on the statewide executive boards for the ACLU of Tennessee, the Nashville Community Bail Fund, the Tennessee Innocence Project and Metro Nashville Social Services, among others.
