Indiana University President Pamela Whitten has appointed co-chairs and a committee to spearhead the search for an executive vice president and chancellor of IU Bloomington. The new leader for IU’s flagship campus will focus on fostering increased faculty participation in decision-making, enhancing community relations and developing a rich understanding of the Bloomington campus community.
David Daleke, dean of the IU Bloomington Graduate School, vice provost for graduate education and health sciences, and professor of biochemistry and molecular biology in the IU School of Medicine, and Danielle DeSawal, clinical professor of higher education and student affairs in the School of Education and president of the Bloomington Faculty Council, will co-chair the search. They are joined by a committee that includes:
- Jen Berry, university director for first-generation and low/limited-income student support, co-chair of the IU Bloomington Staff Council.
- Jason Dudich, interim vice president for finance and chief financial officer.
- William Hetrick, professor of psychological and brain sciences.
- Patrick Hopkins, professor and vice dean of Kelley School of Business.
- Nashuba Hudson, graduate student in the Maurer School of Law, editor-in-chief for the Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies.
- Wendy Leutert, assistant professor of East Asian languages and cultures in the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies.
- Chad Lochmiller, associate professor and department chair of educational leadership and policy studies.
- Charlie Nelms, vice president emeritus for institutional development and student affairs, and chancellor emeritus of IU East.
- Logan Paul, senior lecturer of informatics.
- Bernice Pescosolido, distinguished professor of sociology, founding director of the Indiana Consortium for Mental Health Services Research, founding director of the Irsay Institute.
- Denzil Ross, president of IU Health South Central Region.
- Amanda Rutherford, associate professor in the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
- Scott Shackelford, provost professor of business law and ethics in the Kelley School of Business, executive director of the Ostrom Workshop, director of the Ostrom Workshop Program on Cybersecurity and Internet Governance, and executive director of the Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research.
- Marietta Simpson, distinguished Rudy professor of music in the Jacobs School of Music.
- India Thusi, professor of law, Charles L. Whistler faculty fellow and senior scientist at the Kinsey Institute.
- Cooper Tinsley, student body president for IU Student Government.
The IU Board of Trustees approved reestablishing the chancellor role for IU Bloomington at its June meeting. Isaacson, Miller — one of the country’s leading executive search firms — is also assisting in the search for a leader of the flagship campus.
“The challenges of higher education paired with the size and complexity of the Bloomington campus have made it clear that a chancellor is needed, and this critical leadership role will help us in our constant pursuit of excellence,” Whitten said. “I am grateful for the leadership of our search committee and the partnership with the IU Bloomington Faculty Council. Together, we will find an exceptional leader who will foster a culture of collaboration and excellence on our campus.”
Updates about the search, as well as information about how staff, faculty and staff can participate, will be shared in future editions of IU Bloomington Today and on the IU Executive Searches website.
