My Voice at IU is back

IU Human Resources wants Indiana University to be one of the best places to work, and for employees to know that their voice matters.
As a result, IUHR has once again partnered with Gallup Inc. — a third-party survey administrator — to launch another My Voice at IU Staff Employee Engagement Survey on Sept. 23.
The quick online survey collects valuable feedback from appointed, benefits-eligible staff employees on how you feel about working at IU: whether you feel valued, whether your contributions matter and the level of pride in your work. In short, the survey measures your level of engagement with IU and your work.
The survey gives IU data to better understand the needs of its employees, what the university and units are doing well, and where there are opportunities to improve. For example, the 2022 My Voice at IU survey showed a need to ensure staff clearly understand the expectations of their role. As a result, IU adopted the Performance at IU program, which introduced staff and supervisors to simple conversation tools that help build a culture of conversations, where recurring conversations clarify the expectations of our roles and more. Engaging staff in a dialog about work and development helps everyone succeed, and hopefully increases engagement.
Changes based on survey results are also led by units themselves. HR professionals will help staff discuss their unit’s results and work environment, then create action plans to improve their work experience. In the past, units have created plans to enhance communications, recognition, team building and more.
This new survey — the fourth one in seven years — gives IU another snapshot of the staff experience. Taking the survey is important; it’s the first step in a process that empowers staff to drive change and enhance their work experience at IU.
How the survey works
- On Sept. 23, all appointed, benefits-eligible staff employees hired on or before July 1, 2024, will receive an email invitation from Gallup with a unique link to the survey.
- Click the secure link to begin the 25-question survey. It should take about 10 minutes to complete. Staff can save their progress to finish later if interrupted.
- Staff can complete the survey during work hours.
- It is available 24/7 and can be completed using most mobile devices.
- Reminder emails will be sent by Gallup until the survey is completed or the survey closes.
- The survey closes at midnight Oct. 14.

What happens after the survey?
All answers are kept strictly confidential by Gallup. Results will be aggregated in groups of no fewer than five employees, and no individual responses are shared with IU or its leadership.
Aggregate survey data will be shared with your work unit for your discussion and planning purposes beginning in the first quarter of 2025. HR professionals, leaders and staff can then work together to create action plans to enhance their work environment.
IUHR will provide continued information about the survey to employees via IU Today and targeted email. Eligible staff employees should watch their IU email on Sept. 23 for their invitation to the survey.
