The Indiana University Board of Trustees during its September meeting passed resolutions honoring two former trustees, James T. Morris and Jeremy Morris.
James T. Morris, known as Jim, died July 12 at age 81. An IU alumnus, he was first elected to the board in 1996 and retired in 2022 after serving on and off for decades, including two terms as board chair.
He dedicated his life to serving the Hoosier state in many other capacities, including by playing a key role in the cultural and economic development of Indianapolis during his time working at the city, Lilly Endowment, and Pacers Sports and Entertainment, among others.
“(Jim’s) wisdom, passion, selflessness, loyalty, public-mindedness, kindness and compassion will be immeasurably missed,” the resolution read. “He will be forever known as the eternally optimistic, consummate unifier who dreamed big and empowered others to succeed.”
Trustees also passed a resolution expressing their appreciation to Jeremy Morris, who served one term on the board. He served as chair of the academic affairs and university policy committee from 2021 to 2024.
Jeremy Morris has also served IU as an adjunct faculty member, adviser to several IU Indianapolis Greek organizations and an instructor for the IU partnership with Indianapolis Public Schools.
