Hispanic Heritage Month, observed annually from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, is a time to honor and celebrate the rich history, culture and contributions of Hispanic and Latine communities. As part of the university’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, IU Human Resources is highlighting upcoming events and resources tailored for Spanish-speaking employees.
Personalized financial planning
Ben Apraez, one of IU’s dedicated Fidelity workplace financial consultants, is available to meet with Spanish-speaking employees one-on-one for personalized financial planning. Whether you need help with saving, investing or planning for retirement, Apraez can guide you through each stage of your life and career.
Individual appointments are available at no cost for IU retirement plan participants. To schedule a session:
- Call 800-587-5282 and request a meeting with Ben Apraez.
- Book online using Fidelity’s scheduling tool.
Investing basics webinar in Spanish
“Dar el Primer Paso Para Invertir” (“Take the First Step to Investing”) is for Spanish-speaking employees enrolled in an IU retirement plan who need guidance on choosing the appropriate mix of investments. The virtual workshop will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. Sept. 25.
- Register for the webinar on Fidelity’s website.
Mental health resources
Having open, honest conversations about mental health, and access to culturally competent support for Hispanic communities, can help break down the stigma often associated with discussing mental health issues and encourage more people to seek help.
- Visit the IU Workplace Mental Health site for information and resources related to mental health in Hispanic communities.
- Call 888-881-5462 for free, confidential support 24/7 through IU’s employee assistance program, SupportLinc EAP. Professionally licensed Spanish-speaking care advocates can provide in-the-moment support and referrals for employees and family members facing a mental health concern. They can also connect you with Spanish-speaking mental health providers in your community.
LinkedIn Learning courses in Spanish
Employees have access to an online library of more than 15,000 expert-led video tutorials and courses through LinkedIn Learning. Courses are available in 13 languages, including Spanish.
To change the language settings:
- From the LinkedIn Learning website: Log in to LinkedIn Learning, then select the globe icon next to the IU logo in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. This will open a drop-down menu where you can change the language.
- From the LinkedIn Learning mobile app: Go to “My Learning,” then tap your name, followed by “Settings” to change the language.
