Earlier this week, Indiana University President Pamela Whitten announced a change in the university’s winter holiday schedule.
“In recognition of our dedicated staff and in appreciation of our excellent faculty for all they do for our students, I am pleased to share a change in the university’s winter holiday schedule. All university offices — except those providing required services — will close from Dec. 25 through Jan. 1,” Whitten said in a university-wide email. “We appreciate your commitment to IU and hope these additional winter holidays leave you rested, recharged and ready for the new year.”
This year, in addition to the already recognized holidays of Christmas on Dec. 25 and New Year’s Day on Jan. 1, IU will observe four newly approved winter holidays on Dec. 26, 27, 30 and 31.
Leaders of support teams will coordinate work schedules for these additional holiday days. Staff employees who are not required to work on these new holidays will receive regular pay.
In addition, the university will recognize the workdays between Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 as official holidays going forward.
