Residential Programs and Services is asking IU Bloomington faculty and staff to refer undergraduate students for 2022-23 residential life leadership positions through Nov. 17.
“We seek faculty and staff input for referrals for multiple reasons,” said Julia Ailes, RPS assistant director, who oversees selection and training. “Our staff have continually said that the reason they have applied is due to personal encouragement from someone who knows them well.”
Faculty and staff may refer any eligible undergraduate student for these residential life staff positions by submitting the student’s name, email address and short recommendation (300 character limit). Referred students will receive an email notification and invitation to apply for open positions, but referrals are not required to apply.
Resident assistants and CommUNITY Educators, known as CUEs, work in their residence center as on-site residential life staff, often serving as a key access point to campus resources for first-year students in particular, Ailes said.
“RAs and CUEs are critical to supporting student success at IU Bloomington,” she said. “Their goal is to facilitate an intentional environment where students can successfully navigate the intersection of their personal, academic and career goals.”
Both RA and CUE positions are structured around RPS residential curriculum focused on pillars of well-being, understanding self and others, intellectual engagement, and civic stewardship.
“There’s so much freedom within the role,” student Carly Colvin said in a 2020 information session. “We are given a pretty in-depth curriculum, but within that you can make any tweaks and additions that you want to.”
Student applicants should be returning undergraduate students in fall semester 2022. A complete list of application requirements is available on the RPS website. Student applications will be due Dec. 1. Compensation includes housing, meal plan and a stipend.
