IUPUI employees can spread the joy of the holidays by sponsoring a family in the community through the Office of Community Engagement’s Season of Giving. The goal is to support 50 families this year, giving back to our community by supporting our neighbors who need extra assistance this time of year.
To contribute to the Season of Giving program, determine how many individuals you want to sponsor based on your ability to give. The office asks that you spend a minimum of $50 per person being sponsored.
The Office of Community Engagement works with its service agency partners, Christamore House and Hawthorne Community Center, to identify people or families in need and provide necessary information for gifting. This information includes number of people in the household, ages of children, clothing sizes and wish lists. The service agency partnerswill distribute the gifts.
Once IUPUI employees register, the office works quickly to match givers with the people/family you will sponsor. The deadline to sign up is Nov. 19, so every family can be assigned by Thanksgiving weekend, with the goal ofcollecting gifts in early December.
In the past, the IUPUI community has been generous with its donations. Many have included Season of Giving gift-wrapping parties as part of their office holiday celebrations. The Office of Community Engagement is encouraging not only departments or schools to sponsor a family but also student organizations and clubs that faculty and staff oversee.
