Nominations and applications are now being accepted as part of the search for an executive vice president and chancellor for the Indiana University Bloomington campus.
The search is being co-chaired by David Daleke, dean of the IU Bloomington Graduate School, vice provost for graduate education and health sciences, and professor of biochemistry and molecular biology in the IU School of Medicine; and Danielle DeSawal, clinical professor of higher education and student affairs in the School of Education and president of the Bloomington Faculty Council.
IU has partnered with executive search firm Isaacson, Miller to lead the search efforts for this pivotal role.
In September, a series of listening sessions were held on the IU Bloomington campus to help members of the search committee and executive search firm learn more about the campus community’s aspirations for the role, including characteristics that are important for the leader.
“The search committee wants to thank all the staff, students, faculty and alumni who came to a listening session or submitted feedback online for the committee to consider,” DeSawal said. “The committee took great care to consider how the desired characteristics, areas of focus and concerns were communicated in the position profile that helps candidates understand the role.”
Now, the committee would like to encourage members of the IU Bloomington campus community to review the position profile, nominate a candidate for the position or even apply themselves through the IU Executive Searches website.
As expanded upon in the position description, the new leader for IU’s flagship campus will focus on advancing a shared vision for a modern flagship research university; building trust among the campus community; supporting research and creativity; prioritizing student success and holistic experience; judiciously stewarding financial resources; and engaging with surrounding communities.
The IU Board of Trustees approved the chancellor role for IU Bloomington at its June meeting. This addition allows the campus to adopt a leadership structure with both a chancellor and a provost, mirroring other distinguished R-1 campuses. The chancellor will serve as the chief executive officer of the Bloomington campus, while the president’s role as the strategic leader of the entirety of IU continues.
The IU Bloomington campus community will be updated as the search continues.
